Mariam Awadi works for the National Local Government Finance Committee in Malawi as a Financial Analyst. Her responsibilities include monitoring financial management patterns and adherence to guidelines by local authorities. As a Humphrey fellow, Mariam’s focus areas were public policy analysis, international relations, financial management and leadership, and public-private partnerships. During the Fellows program, Mariam was affiliated with, and worked for, UNICEF under the Public-Private Partnerships Europe Team as part of her professional development. After the fellowship, her focus turned to ensuring that all public resources allocated to Local Authorities are well accounted for, and only used for the intended purposes within the tenets of transparency and accountability. Further, she would like to contribute towards the proper coordination of public and private partnerships in line with Malawi’s development agenda. Mariam has an MBA from the Malawi Institute of Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Malawi.
